Not Fit For Polite Company: Uranus In Aries

"Looking For" by http://m0thyyku.deviantart.com/

You know it’s important to be yourself. But what if that means alienating friends and family?

This question is brought to you by transiting Uranus in Aries, the honesty accelerator. Wherever you have Aries in your chart is where you must do your own thing. This is the area of  life where you cannot compromise.

Uranus is about honesty, freedom and standing apart from the crowd. Aries is about identity and instinct. You can see how this combination has no patience for polite society. Since Uranus arrived on the scene (around May 2010), that push to go your own way has become undeniable. If you’ve already been true to yourself in this area, this transit of Uranus has accelerated things. If you’ve been suppressing your true identity, this transit will provide quite the upheaval.

As Uranus sweeps through the Aries part of your life it spotlights who you really are. The types of relationships/lovers you’re actually attracted to. The kind of career you really want. The sort of lifestyle that would honestly make you happy. Thing is, Uranus works through radical change so it’s a guarantee that some people in your circle will be offended/shocked/disapproving of the new you. And while this is distressing, it can’t be helped. When Uranus blows through it pushes you forward. Those that can’t (or won’t) keep up will get left behind.

Easier said than done when those left behind are family members or partners. And please note that I am not advising you to dump your friends/family and start from scratch (the shadow side of Uranus involves cutting everyone off). No. The best way to handle a Uranus transit is to give others the chance to accept your changes. Be open about your plan to embrace reality (because there’s nothing more real than your true purpose). Then do it and let others catch up. Freedom, remember? You must give everyone the freedom to accept you (or not).

Uranian energy is currently muted because the planet is retrograde (moving backwards). But on December 10th it will go direct and you can expect intensified changes, upheavals and surprises.

Hi, Nadia. just wondering what the effect of retrograde is. my daughter was born with uranus retrograde. does this mean that she has has been feeling the description above more during the retrograde period or that when Uranus goes direct, she will not feel the effects as much?

It’s debatable whether people with retrograde natal planets experience retrograde transits differently. I would say since Uranus is a generational planet (not personalized as the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus or Mars is) she won’t notice a big difference (unless, of course, transiting Uranus contacts her natal Uranus in some way).
The urge for freedom in natal Uranus retrograde is internalized. It builds up until there is release (triggered by a transit of progression). In some ways it’s more noticeable than Uranus direct in the natal chart because of that sudden release.
