The Bubble And The Pin: Venus in Pisces Opposes Mars in Virgo

"Welcome to Heartbreak" by http://kameolynn.deviantart.com/

Venus in Pisces is opposing Mars in Virgo right now. This gives us romantic (Venus) fantasy (Pisces) challenged by real (Virgo) actions (Mars). Nothing bursts the Pisces bubble like a shot of Virgo realism (or pessimism). Plus, Mars is retrograde which means you may be going over someone’s story with a fine tooth comb to ascertain if they’re too good to be true.

Things can go either way with an opposition.  Some may drift into la-la land with Venus in Pisces and then be horribly disillusioned when their dream is shattered. Others may use Mars retrograde in Virgo to pick apart a perfectly nice romance.

The best way to handle this influence is to find the middle ground (this works for natal and synastric oppositions as well). What do Virgo and Pisces both want? Perfection. Virgo wants it in the real world and Pisces searches for it in a spiritual utopia.  The middle ground could look something like this:

  • transcending (Pisces) your partner’s little flaws and working (Mars in Virgo) on loving them for who they are right now. If you’re single, apply this to yourself.
  • staying grounded (Mars in Virgo) by seeing your crush/lover/ex/unavailable fixation as who they really are: human. Not divine (Venus in Pisces).

This aspect is exact on February 1st and will be most potent for those with planets between 20-22 degrees Virgo or Pisces.

UhOh. I have both the sun and pluto natally between 20-22 in oppostion.

This line up is ‘xactly on my north and south node (venus on nn) and I have an important meeting with a dear male friend/mentor who deeply hurt and disappointed me. Not romantic but a professional friendship that’s way more complicated than it should be. Dang. Any advice? I’d really like to preserve the relationship.

    • Nadia says:

Venus on the NN in Pisces is about embracing forgiveness, love that transcends mistakes, etc. I would say forgive and forget if you really want to but I have no idea what transpired between you two so it might be more complicated. Mars in Virgo will be pushing you to see the truth so use that (make sure your judgement is not clouded by hurt feelings). It’s retrograde so you’ll be dredging up past hurts as well. Try and focus on the present moment (Pisces), hear what he is saying (Virgo) in the context of right now. When Mars goes direct I think your relationship with him will either move forward (fresh start) or you’ll find the weight of the hurt he caused you to be too much and you’ll end the friendship.

Thanks so much for your generous reply. Super helpful. I really appreciate it!

And forgot to mention, I have natal Pluto conjunct SN, so I do almost feel like this will be an internal battle with my compulsions. I will keep your great description of Pisces NN at the forefront…

#1) That picture of the eye weirds me out a little bit. I’m a Leo child of the 80′s, and for some strange reason it reminds me of something I would have had a poster of, and worn.
#2) I’ve been watching the TV show Dual Survival. If you haven’t seen it, the premise is: two guys dropped off in the wilderness; limited supplies; must use knowledge and work together to survive and make a return back to civilization. The two survival experts are Cody Lundin (Pisces) and Dave Canterbury (Virgo). It’s really great to see how they work together to resolve an intense situation. Talk about finding the middle ground.

@Amy – This also straddles my nodal axis, though in the reverse (NN 22 Virgo, 2nd house). Venus is calling me towards my Pisces SN … making absorption and fantasy so appealing! Getting lost in the reading I have to do for grad school (in theology) and contemplation is especially attractive now. Yet growth (NN) is in managing the details, and seeing the reality of my resources – and that’s not very exciting at the moment. Mars, come to the rescue!

@Nadia – The way you talk about current transits helps me to see how they play out in my natal chart. The practical application becomes apparent. I hadn’t been interested in mundane (is that the right term?) astrology, since I couldn’t perceive the usefulness of it in my daily life. I’m beginng to learn more about astrology – and I appreciate this instruction. Thanks!

    • Nadia says:

Great! Glad you find my writings helpful. I’ve always felt astrology should be applicable to everyone since it’s such a powerful tool.

well isnt this just me all around. and my sun is at 20′virgo. i have been practicing ‘existing’ on the other side (pisces) as a sort of ‘ongoing mentality/meditation’ for getting through the last year or so and i can say it works. helped keep my sanity, really :)
i can vouch for how much better it is to live day in-day out life practicing the advice in this posting.
