Fire, Sex, Magic: The Festival Of Beltane

Beltane, the Pagan fire and fertility festival, happens from sundown tonight to tomorrow night. It’s all about celebrating life and sex. What’s not to like?

It will be supported by a wide Grand Earth trine tomorrow morning, consisting of the Sun at 11 degrees Taurus, a Moon/Mars conjunction at 5 degrees Virgo and Pluto at 9 degrees Capricorn.  Normally I would consider the planets a bit too far apart to form an effective trine, but this is a potent time of year.

You don’t have to practice Wicca to celebrate the Pagan festivals. It’s about energy; Beltane is the half-way point between the Vernal Equinox and the Summer Solstice. There’s a build up of power/Qi/life force…whatever you believe moves you through your days. The more you repeat something, the stronger it becomes. What does that tell you about a festival that’s been celebrated for centuries?

Focus (Sun) on building abundance (Taurus) with passionate (Moon/Mars) dedication (Virgo) to powerful (Pluto) traditions (Capricorn). Build on existing potentials and celebrate what you already have. This is the ideal time to get married, conceive a child (or creative project) or just appreciate everything that’s good in your life.

Fragrances/incense associated with Beltane: roses, lilac, patchouli, sandalwood,  cinnamon, vanilla, frankincense and musk.

One Response to Fire, Sex, Magic: The Festival Of Beltane

  1. Jessica says:

Personally, I celebrate the seasonal holidays according to the astrological degree rather than the modern calendar (like most people), so that would make Beltane a few days out yet, when the sun is at 15 degrees Taurus (the astrological midpoint between equinox and solstice). But thanks for the heads up – I had actually forgotten all about it this year!
