Mars in Virgo may be going full speed ahead (direct) on April 13th but it’s also forming a blurry opposition to Neptune.
Think of this as a final opportunity to clean up doubtful situations that have been draining your motivation. Mars in Virgo wants to do it right. Neptune undercuts this with escapist fantasies or questionable goals. You know what you should do but X looks so tempting. Or maybe you just want to bury your head in the sand.
I know. It’s not a fun influence. Mars Retrograde in Virgo is all OCD and now Neptune’s over there saying “Hey. It’s ok to just let it slide. Trust me.” But you know the thing with these ugly little aspects? If you stick to your guns and push through you’ll accomplish more than you would during the best Jupiter transit.
What to do during this Mars/Neptune opposition:
- Confront what you’ve been avoiding
- Do what it takes to stay on the wagon when you feel yourself slipping off
- Get to the truth of a cherished fantasy
Don’t expect progress until Mars goes direct. Between now and April 13th your task is to uncover the facts and/or hold steady. But if you do the work now, by the time Mars jumps forward you will have a sparkling clean slate because you’ve cut through all that Neptune hype.
Mars is currently at 3 degrees Virgo. It will continue to oppose Neptune (at 2 degrees Pisces) until April 21st when it will hit 4 degrees Virgo and the energy of the aspect will gradually fade. This means that when it goes direct on April 13th it will still be under Neptune’s spell. But you’ll feel the difference; Mars direct in Virgo is lean, clean and future-focused. It has no patience for Neptune’s fluff.

So, these transits’ aspects are strongest with a one degree orb? After that it begins fading? If so, I imagine this holds true for personal planets hit under a transit…..the strongest impact at a one degree orb (with another one for approaching and receding)?
Aspects are strongest when they are exact (0 degree orb) but Mars Rx will not form an exact opposition to Neptune. So a 1 degree orb is the strongest (Mars at 3 degrees Virgo, Neptune at 2 degrees Pisces). The energy of the aspect starts to fade as the two planets separate. The energy gets stronger when the two planets approach each other. Same idea for personal planets.
Hi Nadia:
Mars is exactly conjunct my natal Pluto in the 11H at 3%. What theme’s would this type of transit cover for me??
Mars conjunct Pluto in the 11th = power struggles involving groups, friends or the public. Challenged by transiting Neptune in your 5th House of creativity/ego so perhaps some romantic illusions or increased creativity (depending on how Neptune in your 5th is manifesting) will undercut or stir up some opposition with your group.
Hi Nadia,
İn my son’s horoskop today,Neptun is at 2% Pisces,AC 2%Pisces,and Mars is at3% Virgo,DC 2% Virgo.What does it mean?
During this period: Mars (the planet of action, weapons, etc.) in Virgo (the sign that represents health and our body) opposite three planets Neptune (the planet that represents fantasy), Mercury (the planet of children) both in Pisces (the sign that represents fantasy) and Uranus ( planet represents surprises, unexpected issues) in Aries (sign that represtents accidents, war, violence, etc.).
This could be the case of two children (Mercury) shooting cans with a bb gun (Mars), not being supervised by an adult (Mars opposite Neptune – weak father figure), switch from reality work ( Mars in Virgo) to ireallity (Neptune in Pisces), one of the kids let’s play like zombies (fantasy related to technology – video games and Neptune in conjunction Uranus), he shoot the other kid with the real bb gun ignoring that he was carrying a real gun (Neptune in Pisces), the kid was shoot in his mouth and the bb was discovered until Mars turned direct on April 13 and extracted with a surgical procedure (Mars in Virgo direct). Be careful with children fantasies related to guns during Mars – Neptune oppositions with aspect Mercury and Uranus.
Hi Nadia. Mars is conjuncting my natal Jupiter at 1 Virgo and my S.O.’s Jupiter at 3 Virgo. We both have Neptune opposing those Jupiters. Our relationship has been kind of in a holding pattern where neither is completely happy. I have begun actively “looking”, and wonder if he is too. I speak about it – he won’t. His natal Jupiter receives an out of sign trine from Saturn (Aries to Virgo) and mine is squared by Saturn (Scorpio). I know this isn’t much information, but what would be your general view on Neptune opposing these Jupiters and Mars conjuncting.
Neptune opposite Jupiter is the dramatic expansion of ideals. It will be highlighting what’s wrong (Virgo) and Mars will be adding fuel to this by pushing you to look for something better. The caution with a Neptune opposition is to make sure that your search is realistic. You may missing something in your current relationship but make sure what you’re aiming for is not a fantasy. Also, the Mars-Neptune opposition is responsible for misguided energy. If you meet someone new under this transit, go very slowly with them because you’ll be seeing what you want to see.
Would a progressed Mars in Virgo about to cross the IC @ 6degs, Mars being the ruler of the 11th house with Chiron (natal Mars 3H in Leo conjunct Sun & Moon), behave the same way as a transit? 4th house has natal Venus & Pluto conjunction in 20 & 22 Virgo soon-to-be hit by progressed Sun conjunct progressed Mercury Rx at 19degs…Opposing Neptune currently conjunct North Node in Pisces. Thanks Nadia
Progressed Mars is about an internal energy shift (how you express your Mars will change). Transiting Mars is an external event.
My natal Mars is 5 Virgo, and from what I read I will be influenced by this opposition for the next 2 years to come. Most people see Neptune in a negative light, so how does one work with it productively? i.e. not focusing on what to avoid but how to use the energy? I think of it being great for making art, meditate, and a heightened sensitivity for energies in general. Having Mars at the top of my chart in the 9th house, it is very dominant and in Virgo also very self-critical and a pain at times, which can make me get into my own way a bit, and I wonder if Neptune could also bring more mellowness if I can find a balance between those two opposing energies? What do you think? Am I wearing the rose-colored glasses already?
Neptune opposite Mars can be wonderful for releasing limits/doubts that might be holding you back from 9th House opportunities (long distance travel, education, exploring or just having faith).
That would make much sense in my case, actually. My self doubts often get in the way of my making progress, rarely a lack of skills or talent. Faith, therefore, can be a challenge as well. … and re long distance travel, yeah!
