Death Card

"Death" from the Tarot Art Nouveau

This lush version of the Death card from the Tarot Art Nouveau is a reminder that allowing death into your life can be beautiful. This is, of course, in line with tomorrow’s Scorpio Full Moon.

When you get this card in a reading it’s always a call for profound transformation. It makes people uneasy. Some decks show The Reaper on their Death card. I like how she’s removing her mask in this one, as if to say “Look. It’s not so bad”.

I’ve pulled the Death card for clients who were about to be married, have a child or realize a long-awaited dream. No, it wasn’t a comment on how bitterly they were going to be dissapointed. It was a description of how completely their life was about to change, for the better.  The more entrenched you are in a certain way of being, the bigger change is when you let go. And that can be a beautiful thing.

Enjoy the Full Moon tomorrow and don’t be afraid to dive in.

Thank you for this balanced view of the Death card. Many people have tried to clear up peoples misconceptions about this element/transition in the Major Arcana but you are the first I’ve read to put it in such joyous but realistic terms. It’s important to remember that even the best transitions in our lives bring a whole lot of other things that may turn us upside down and inside out – AND that this just might be a good thing!

Love this post, Nadia! Me and the death card are old friends at this point! :-)

Cheers to death, even with all of its uncertainty, pain, and fear. The death card speaks to my soul as I feel little bits of me die all the time, burning away and leaving behind clear, beautiful places inside of me.

I’ve been following your blog posts for awhile now and I finally feel its time to say THANK YOU, Nadia, for your insights. They are spot on. I’m an Oct. 19th Libra/Scorp and I’m just about beat to death from the whole mars/virgo saturn/libra ordeal. It feels a bit like astrological boot camp or something. But truly…. Always looking forward to your posts. Happy super-scorpio-full moon.
