Sugar Rush: Jupiter Moves Into Aries

Today Jupiter, the planet of expansion, moves into Aries, the sign ruled by Mars.  It will stay in Aries (bar a retrograde into Pisces from September, 2010 to January, 2011) until June 5, 2011.  In my previous post (Brave New World) I likened Uranus in Aries to a toddler (Aries) high on sugar discovering an illuminated box (Uranus).  Jupiter is the sugar fueling our excited little guy.

People look forward to transits of Jupiter:  it's associated with good luck, optimism and wealth. Wheee!  See the big grin on our toddler's face?  That's Jupiter. However, this does not mean that good things will materialize out of thin air.  Jupiter brings abundance by increasing the freedom to think and act.  It opens our eyes to existing opportunities.  Lord of the Big Picture, Jupiter transits blur the details while broadening our horizons.

Jupiter in Aries pumps up everything Aries stands for.  Beginnings, action, defiance.  Sounds potent and it is.  The last time Jupiter transited through Aries was from February 14, 1999 to February 15, 2000 (it moved forward into Taurus from June, 1999 to October, 1999).  George Lucas'  The Phantom Menace (first prequel to Star Wars) debuted on May 19 and became the highest grossing Star Wars film.  Larger then life?  Check.  Action galore?  Check. SpongeBob SquarePants, the insanely optimistic sponge, debuted as an animated series on Nickelodeon on May 1.  His tag line was "I'm ready!"

Jupiter in Aries also has a dark side. On April 20, 1999, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold shot to death 12 students and 1 teacher before killing themselves in Columbine, Colorado. It was believed that Eric Harris had a "messianic-level superiority complex".  The optimism that Jupiter brings can tip over into arrogance.  In this case it resulted in larger then life (Jupiter) violence (Aries).

Obviously caution is the watchword here.  The potential for positive AND negative is greatly increased with this transit.  The examples I've used exist at the far ends of the spectrum and are the exception rather then the rule.  Most people will only notice a general increase in whatever tendencies they already have.  So look to where Aries is in your chart:  Jupiter will be pumping things up here.  Enjoy the energy surge but always keep at least one foot on the ground.
