I have two friends who have been contentedly single for a very long time. Within the past few weeks both have expressed the desire to partner up and settle down. Specifically, they have both stated that they are lonely. This was new so I checked out their natal charts to see what was happening.
You'd think there would be transits to their 7th Houses, right? Wrong. But they have both started receiving major transits to their 12th Houses.
Loneliness is equated with Saturn. This makes sense because Saturn means a lack of something and loneliness is missing companionship. But the 12th House is also associated with this void. It represents the subconscious, what is hidden (including prisons and sickrooms), the homeless, the weak. It is enforced segregation, all the more frightening because it is a place most of us rarely visit.
Ruled by Pisces, it holds the dual potential for delusion and transcendence. It is the key to your soul mate (as I explained in this article) but you can also lose yourself here.
When outer planets transit the 12th house, people are confronted with its issues. Pluto might stir up an awareness of how their insistence on being in control has isolated them. Transiting Neptune might open them up to merging with another. But before any breakthroughs can happen they will have to face the void of isolation and their subconscious fears. Outer events rarely occur with this transit but interior shifts can be massive.
The best way to deal with 12th House transits is to find a place or time that is quiet. This is where dream work or meditation can be especially potent. Going on a retreat, dropping off the grid for awhile or just telling friends and family that you need a time out....all these yin actions will help you access your 12th House and flow with the changes.
