Time for a quick astrology lesson.
I write about transits. Transiting Saturn square transiting Venus, transiting Uranus trine the Sun, etc. I also write about how said transits affect your natal planets (it's different). A reader asked me if transiting Saturn square Venus can be interpreted the same way as natal Saturn square Venus (no...and you'll see why in a second). An excellent question and it made me realize that all this talk of transits and aspects can be confusing. So here's your cheat sheet on the difference between natal and transiting aspects, using Venus square Saturn as an example.
- Transiting Venus square transiting Saturn: Venus and Saturn are floating around out there when they happen to hook up and form a square aspect. The energy that is created (limited desires) is universal and external unless one or both planets happen to hit a sensitive spot in your chart...(see the next point). Then it becomes personal.
- Transiting Venus square natal Saturn or transiting Saturn square natal Venus: the clue lies with the words "transiting" and "natal". Transiting planets periodically form aspects with your personal (natal) planets or the cusps of your 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th houses (angles). When this happens your internal life is impacted by external energy. Transiting Saturn will bring restrictions/limits/boundaries down on your natal Venus (your desires/wants/relationships). You need to incorporate those restrictions for the duration of the transit.
- Natal Venus square natal Saturn: it's all internal and the interpretation of limited desires is colored by the sign and house each planet is in. Plus, any aspects from other natal planets to Saturn and/or Venus will modify this energy. In some ways this is like a permanent transit but the way to handle it must be interpreted according to the areas of your chart the planets are in. If this aspect is in your chart you were born with the energy of limitations. You don't have to incorporate it the way you would with a temporary transit. You do need to figure out how it's manifesting in your life and whether it's helping or hindering you.
And...one last scenario. If you meet someone and their Saturn squares your Venus, think of them as an (external) Saturn transit.
