Ready for a bit of everyday magic? Mercury moves into Taurus today, kicking off the "thoughts into reality" aspect I wrote about a couple of days ago. "Magic" is just an attempt to influence the outcome of things. Most of you do this everyday, whether you know it or not. Think about it; you make plans, focus your intentions, and hope that X will happen. For a more detailed (but still grounded) view on everyday magic, check out this post from runesoup.com.
Anyway, one Tarot card that expresses this idea perfectly is The Magician. He is the manifester. Note the infinity symbol over his head (thoughts) and how he points to the earth (made real). When he comes up in response to "Will I be ok" or "Will this work out" or "How do I...", it usually means that you have more power than you realize. You control the outcome. But he's an active, masculine card so you have to take action to manifest your desired outcome.
The Magician's astrological correspondence is Mercury. Technically, it's Mercury in Aries but I think he resonates nicely with Mars (masculine energy) in Virgo (ruled by Mercury). He also makes magic using the stuff he has on hand; he's a resourceful guy. So Mercury in Taurus (practical resources) fits him as well.
The flip-side of The Magician is trickery. If you're asking about someone and you pull this card reversed or ill dignified, watch out. You've got someone who can make you see whatever he or she wants. If you get this card for yourself and it's reversed, you've got the power but you're not using it. Or you're using it incorrectly (dishonestly).
