2018 begins on an emotional note, with a January 1st Full Moon in Cancer (11 deg). Cancer is the sign of the mother and child. The themes of authority versus nurturing and stoicism versus tears and/or warmth may be prominent. A Cancer Full Moon always brings some need to a peak.
But there's more to this Moon. It's part of a Kite. It forms a Grand Water Trine with Mars in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces (Jupiter in Scorpio is nearby but I'm keeping the orbs tight, so I'm not counting it). Neptune and Mars makes sextiles to the Sun, the point of the Kite.
This Grand Trine is a wallop of emotions - Mars will activate things, heating up whatever's been brewing. Neptune may take some of the edge off, so it will be less angry and more urgently compassionate, passionate or sentimental. By itself, this Grand Water Trine would present a closed circle of emotion with no outlet, but the Kite provides a focal point and outlet in the form of the Capricorn Sun - rules, authority or structured focus will have the final say.
Black Moon Lilith and Venus are close to the Sun, so the energy of the dangerous woman, moving to unite with more traditional expressions of womanhood (Venus in Capricorn) will be part of this Moon. We have the mother (Moon) opposing the witch/outsider (Lilith) and the lady who attracts (Venus).
While the Moon nurtures and makes you feel safe, BML rages at being an outcast and makes everyone uncomfortable. BML is a woman's raw, sexual energy. When she combines with Venus in Capricorn, we get the sense of a formidable woman on one side, opposing themes such as family and children.
How might this play out? There might be a showdown between "acceptable" versus "unacceptable" forms of female expression. Or, an intensification of certain unmet needs. Moon opposite Black Moon Lilith can be very insecure - a bottomless pit of craving. The dark shadow of not belonging/being judged is fully illuminated, and overwhelming neediness could manifest. Some people may regress, while others attempt to smother and dominate.
Before you act (Mars will urge you to do something) consider what you're really trying to assuage. Are you looking for mother? Are you trying to be a mother? Does being a mother mean you can't be an independent, sexual woman, or vice versa? How did your mother react to you as a woman?
The challenge lies in integrating the Moon and Lilith- the need to feel safe and accepted versus the reality (Capricorn) of what's taboo yet essential. The idea is to come in from the cold (even if you're not invited) and make a home for yourself. All of you - the witch, the crazy woman, the mother, the lover, the child.
BML/Venus/the Sun is the tip of this Kite, so ultimately, the power of independence, female authority and the strength of being "unacceptable" will be the release. This is Capricorn, so you're still working with the rules. Traditions will be important, but so will the focus on the outsider, within those traditions.
