The July 23rd New Moon takes place at 0 degrees Leo. It heralds Leo season (the Sun's ingress takes place on July 22nd) and a conjunction to Mars, at 1 degree, adds extra fire.
This will be a hot new beginning. Too hot? It depends on how comfortable you are with the element of Fire. Specifically, with Leo fire - what begins will be loud, proud and showy. Mars (action, anger, initiative) will add a passionate roar. The mood can range from aggressive to ultra-ambitious to demandingly romantic. Leo themes will be prominent - the desire for recognition, romance, fun or fame. Anger is more likely to be triggered if one of these things is denied or threatened. Passion (which can include attraction or artistic inspiration) will be high, along with the ability to create something special.
There's also a sense of raw potential, because a New Moon is only the first step. And Mars is pure instinct. You may not know exactly where this one is going, and that's just fine.
If you're trying to get something started, this is your Moon. It's sizzling with initiative and confidence. Note that this lunation might trigger events that are connected to the August 21st New Moon eclipse (28 degrees Leo). Leo will be bookended by two New Moons, and the second one will be even more powerful. You may have read about this total solar eclipse, visible across much of North America. I'll write more about it as the date approaches.
In the meantime, look at the upcoming New Moon as an opening into intensifying events. It's all about Leo, and whatever house this sign occupies in your chart is where you can create, take risks and gain appreciation. "Pride" and "dignity" should be your watchwords - when Leo is distorted, we get the drama Queen/King, the approval chaser and the furious child who will do anything to get noticed. Stick with pride and dignity, and you should be ok.
Here's something that can help - a Venus/Saturn opposition (across the Gemini/Sag axis) will be applying on July 23rd and perfecting on July 24th. This is restraint and enforced choices about what you want/love. It's also a culmination, and it can go well for you if you approach the whole deal with maturity. I think this will be a nice counterbalance to the New Moon.
