If you do Tarot readings, pay attention to what's not there.
A total absence of one (or more) suits can signal an underlying problem. If your spread has no:
- Cups: ask yourself where the emotional engagement is. Sometimes this is appropriate (if the issue is work) but if it happens in a relationship spread, it's a red flag. There may be tons of Wands (excitement) but without the emotional connection of the Cups, someone just isn't feeling it.
- Wands: excitement, vitality and creativity is missing. Again, that's ok sometimes. But it could be a problem if the issue is about making progress or staying interested.
- Swords: logic and rationality is absent. Swords get a bad rap in Tarot. People see them as harbingers of pain. But you still need them to cut through the crap and gain perspective. If the issue involves making a decision or doing the right thing, an absence of Swords can show the need for clarity.
- Pentacles: someone's not grounded. Earthy Pentacles are what give a situation longevity. No Pentacles means that a situation (or person) might not be dependable. A dose of practicality is needed.
