May 18th's New Moon at 26 degrees Taurus (it may occur late in the evening on May 17th, depending on your time zone) makes no aspects to other planets. However, it does occur earlier on the same day that Mercury stations Rx in Gemini.
A New Moon in Taurus suggests new beginnings that are based on tangible issues. No empty promises or dreamy ideals. This Moon is firmly planted in the reality of your current situation, and that is what will encourage new growth. As lunations go, it's rather quiet; whatever starts will not be dramatic. But it will have excellent potential for growth.
Mercury stationing Rx on the same day suggests that you'll have to reconsider your words/ideas, or reconnect with an issue/person from the past. You may be compelled to zero in on one bit of intel, to ensure that what's beginning will be moving in the right direction. Mercury Rx does blend with Taurus' cautious energy; slow down and pay attention.
Mercury Rx will be part of a Yod, sextiling Jupiter (at 14 degrees Leo) and inconjuncting Pluto Rx (at 15 degrees Capricorn) which will be the focal point. Jupiter plus Mercury equals expansive ideas, and Pluto Rx means you'll have to focus those exciting ideas in an authentic direction. Jupiter expands, but Pluto in Capricorn compresses and penetrates. What's really going on behind the flashy promises? This will be about taking broad, colourful words and translating them so they can be used by powers that be. Or, finding the kernel of truth, and refusing to be distracted by showy words. Revisiting a past issue that is suddenly relevant and powerful may also be a theme; Mercury and Pluto Rx strongly suggest you'll move ahead by looking over your shoulder.
Note that Venus (ruler of Taurus) at 11 degrees Cancer will be opposing Pluto in Capricorn, taking Pluto's energy of powerful authenticity and refracting it through the prism of essential needs/wants/desires. The key to discerning the truth behind Mercury's words will be the following: does it resonate with what you really want? It will be that simple. If it makes you feel safe, secure and supported (and you can honestly say you want this to happen) then go for it. If it makes you feel unsafe, unsupported or needy, then that's your cue to start your own, independent chapter.
It's all about slowing down, focusing and (if necessary) going back over what you think you already know. This will be what encourages the growth of the Taurus New Moon.
If you have natal or progressed planets/angles/Nodes from:
- 24 to 27 degrees of the Fixed signs, you'll feel this New Moon most strongly
- 12 to 16 degrees Gemini, Cancer, Leo or Capricorn, you'll feel the Yod
