Mars stations retrograde on April 17th, at 8 degrees Sagittarius. The long crusade will be paused.
Questioning the Fire
When the planet of action and desire backtracks in the sign of expansion, it's about more than delays. The beliefs that you've fought for/initiated, the new territory that you've explored, the desires that have fuelled you - all these will be up for revision. Delayed progress is necessary in order to take stock of the new things you've learned or experienced or pursued. Mars Rx can reveal a lie, or confirm a truth, as beliefs are held up for examination. Mars Rx can also create intensified action in an area that requires more heat or force.
Is your current journey taking you someplace you want to be? Are you pursuing something real, or is it a mirage based on overenthusiastic hopes? Do your current actions open up new possibilities, or have you wandered down the wrong path? What do you want, and what have you been doing to get it (if anything)?
Mars will move over 8 to 0 degrees Sagittarius a total of three times (twice while it's direct, once while it is Rx). If you have natal or progressed planets, angles or Nodes from 8 to 0 degrees of the Mutable or Fire signs, Mars will be drawing your attention to an issue that requires revision, or intensified force. Your actions, or someone else's actions, will need to be examined.
A significant part of the Mars Rx transit will involve its dip back into Scorpio, which I'll write about closer to the date. For now, know that Mars Rx into Scorpio takes the questions that were raised in Sagittarius, and applies them at a much deeper level. The revision or intensification of action/desire penetrates beneath the surface, resulting in profound changes.
Pluto will station Rx on April 18th (at 17 degrees Capricorn). This is particularly notable, and not only because Pluto rules Scorpio. Mars is the lower octave of Pluto, which means Mars is the conscious, outward manifestation of Pluto's unconscious energy. Mars takes what Pluto stirs up, and makes it public. When both station Rx within one day of each other, you just know there are some nuclear-strength changes coming up.
Pluto Rx can be a subtle influence, as its restructuring happens beneath the surface. You may only notice if it backs away from or reactivates one of your planets. But since Mars Rx is involved, consider the developments/delays that Mars Rx triggers to be the outward manifestations of what Pluto Rx is stirring up (in the Capricorn section of your chart).
Pluto will be Rx until September 26th, 2016 (when it stations direct at 14 degrees Capricorn). Notably, Mars will enter Capricorn on September 27th, indicating yet another significant chapter in the Mars/Pluto journey. As Mars approaches Pluto (conjunction exact on October 19th, 2016) the discoveries made during their Rx periods will come to fruition, as the conscious and unconscious are united in one, powerful action.
For those interested in the practical deets, Mars Rx can create delays in anything that involves action or initiation. In Sagittarius, travel, legal matters and education will be especially impacted. Starting something brand new during a Mars Rx period will probably result in delays or backtracking. But if you're revisiting something (or someone) then you're right in line with the Rx vibe. Results and forward movement will only be seen once Mars stations direct.
Mars Rx is good for:
- revisiting a past issue
- withdrawing to rest or reevaluate
- focusing more effort on one area
- reevaluating your desires
- examining actions for truth and ethical content
Here are the aspects Mars Rx in Sag will make. Please check out my previous Mars post for a complete list of all the aspects in Sag (including repeat aspects):
- April 17th: stations Rx at 8 deg
- April 27th: Mars Rx inconjunct the Sun in Taurus at 8 deg
- May 3rd: Mars Rx trine Ceres at 7 deg Aries
- May 5th: Mars Rx inconjunct Venus in Taurus at 6 deg
- May 15th: Mars Rx square Pallas at 3 deg Pisces
- May 21st: Mars Rx opposes Vesta at 2 deg Gemini
- May 22nd: Mars Rx opposes Sun in Gemini at 1 deg
- May 24th: Mars Rx opposes Venus in Gemini at 0 deg
- May 27th: Mars Rx reenters Scorpio
Although the upcoming Full Moon in Scorpio will not directly involve Mars, pay attention to what's happening around 8 degrees Sag and 17 degrees Capricorn (in your chart). Pluto Rx will factor into this eclipse, and Mars Rx events may be connected (to the Full Moon).
