Ceres enters Virgo on June 28th, 2018. She's named after the goddess of the harvest whose daughter was taken by Pluto, the King of the Underworld. Ceres' daughter was eventually allowed to join her mother above ground for part of the year, and the crops flourished during this time. When her daughter was below ground, nothing grew because Ceres was in mourning.
Ceres is associated with mother's nurturing, food issues and fear of loss. She represents the entire cycle of nurturing and loss, and is strongly associated with Virgo (the sign of the harvest). Virgo's harvest reflects her high standards - she selects only the best of what has grown. But a selection process means not everything makes the cut. Certain things are discarded.
Therefore, this transit might make you more aware of the selection process in your own nurturing. Not everything can receive your care and attention- the loss occurs when you release what's no longer valid. Sometimes it's taken away from you. This means you can turn your full attention to what remains.
Ceres in Virgo asks you to be selective about who and what you nurture. How do you feed yourself? This could be a metaphorical issue, or it could become very literal if food issues become pronounced.
Ceres will exit Virgo for Libra on September 6th, 2018.
