Saturn enters Capricorn, his home sign, on December 19th at 11:48 PM EST/8:48 PM PST. The planet of rules, status and maturity will be stronger than ever for the next two-and-a-half to three years.
This will not be a light transit. The house(s) in your chart that are occupied by Capricorn will experience intensified focus. You'll have to work, cut back, or grow up.
Capricorn is a Cardinal Earth sign. Despite the emphasis on cautious manifestation, there is also an enhanced drive for success (Cardinal moves forward and Earth delivers physical results). This means you'll see the visible results of your ambitions. But it won't be quick or easy.
I write this every time I blog about Saturn, but it's key to working with this planet so I'll write it again: you'll need to do the work. When Saturn changes signs, the type of work will change. You'll be accountable for something new. You'll have to build from the ground up. You'll have to set and maintain boundaries. You'll have to prove that you're worthy/responsible. All these things will require ongoing effort, and you'll probably be struggling with fears, guilt or pressure.
Saturn's pressure pushes you to commit or excel, and Capricorn makes the stakes physical/material. And always, always, you're confronting reality. This will be concrete reality - the measurable results of what you've accomplished or ignored.
Consequences, either way.
Traditions will be a theme: your family history or the traditions in your relationship/job/group. You may receive a confirmation (you fit in, you meet the standards) or a reality check (you don't fit in and their standards will never be your standards).
What's good about this transit? There can be considerable rewards, if you apply effort, patience and steady forward movement. You'll feel like you've ground to a halt on several occasions, but this will simply be one of Saturn's many tests. It's the climb to the top of the mountain and you stop frequently to secure your footing. But you keep climbing, and when you reach the top there's a rush of satisfaction because you did it. Nothing was handed to you - you worked your a** off and earned your place up there.
In general, planets/Nodes/asteroids in these signs will feel this transit as follows:
- Capricorn: defined, crystallized or made official by Saturn
- Taurus and Virgo: enjoy trines that are stabilizing and reassuring
- Cancer: Saturn's opposition may bring an ending, firm result or restrictive focus that enforces self-sufficiency
- Aries and Libra: tension from Saturn's square will trigger a crisis of responsibility that demands a response
- Gemini and Leo: hit with an inconjunct that demands an awkward adjustment to external rules
- Scorpio and Pisces: sextiles will offer support that's so harmonious (or boring?) you may ignore it. Pay attention to any support you're tempted to take for granted during this transit.
Saturn in Capricorn won't make any major aspects to Sag or Aquarius, although Sagittarius will note the release of pressure as Saturn exits your sign. And Aquarius can prepare for Saturn's occupation (as of March 2020) as he slowly but surely advances.
Saturn in Capricorn will pass over the degrees that Pluto has already churned up, confirming the transformation, and rebuilding where something was destroyed. This will culminate in the January 12th, 2020 Saturn/Pluto conjunction (22 deg) - the ultimate union of power and authority, or the ultimate consequence of misused power. I wrote a PDF about it, if you're interested in how it might impact you.
Saturn will exit Capricorn for Aquarius on March 21st, 2020, and will return (due to his Rx) on July 1st, 2020. Saturn will finally exit Capricorn on December 17th, 2020.
